Why Go
If your ideal Halloween involves celebrating with friends instead of trick or treating, then make plans for a group outing to California’s Great America for a night of thrills and scares.
Every year California’s Great America amusement park in Santa Clara gets dressed up for Halloween and throws a Halloween Haunt party. In addition to the thrilling rides and roller coasters available year-round, there are scare mazes, spooky shows, and haunted houses. It can be scary stuff, with monsters and gore included, so don’t bring the little ones (Great America recommends that guests be 13 years or older).
Right next door to Great America is Levi’s Stadium, home of the San Francisco 49ers NFL team. So if you plan your visit around a 49ers home game, you can hit both events for a fun-filled weekend.
Even if the 49ers are not playing, you can make it a weekend getaway by adding a visit to Santa Clara’s Koreatown. Korean barbecue restaurants are great fun for groups, and you can follow it up with soju and karaoke at a nearby karaoke bar.
Halloween isn’t just for kids! Get your friends or family together and celebrate the holiday with a weekend getaway in Santa Clara.
Suggested Itinerary
Arrive on Friday and enjoy a Korean barbecue dinner and karaoke bar with your group. Then, spend Saturday riding the roller coasters and other attractions. Halloween Haunt starts at 7 pm, but note that the traffic and lines to get into the park can be long if you’re not already inside. On Sunday, watch a game at Levi’s Stadium if the 49ers are playing at home. Or spend the morning recuperating with brunch before driving back.
